Paper Abstract:
|
Purpose. The assessment of Cardio.net system in improving the cardiological care and outcomes of the patients with the
acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Tools and methods. The system, based on readily available telecommunication
infrastructure, has been constructed to allow teleconsultations between small regional hospitals or ambulances and
medical centers with interventional cardiology and cardiosurgery. Electronic Patient Record (EPR) has been developed to
collect all the necessary information about patients medical history and condition. Minimal Cardiological Data Set
(MCDS) has been added where in case of emergency the most important information can be inserted in 5 minutes. Expert
system (ES) has been created to rapidly evaluate patients risk and propose treatment strategy. EPRs fulfilling and
transmitting is reported to cardiologist on duty by short message system (SMS). In the pilot study 5 regional centers and
the reference center are taking part. The assessment of reliability of suggestions given by ES has been performed by
comparison of ESs suggestions and doctors decisions. Results. Several difficulties were found, especially insufficiency
of computer literacy among medical staff and problems with proper access policy. ES suggestions were consistent with
doctors decision. Conclusions. Results of the pilot study are positive. It seems to be possible to develop ACS register for
Mazovia district according to Cardio.net system. The reliability of the ES suggestions has been positively verified. |
